Permalink directories allow you to organize your story URLs with path prefixes. Instead of all stories appearing at the root level (e.g., stories.example.com/my-story), you can group them under directory paths like:

  • Language-specific paths: /en/my-story, /de/meine-geschichte
  • Category-based paths: /news/breaking-story, /features/deep-dive
  • Combined structures: /en/news/latest-update

This helps with organizing content for multilingual sites, creating logical URL hierarchies, and improving SEO through meaningful URL structures.

Setting Up Permalink Directories

To manage permalink directories, navigate to Settings and select the Permalink Directories tab.

To add a new directory:

  1. Type the first path segment (e.g., en) in the input field
  2. Press / or click the + button to add additional segments (e.g., en/news)
  3. Click Add to create the directory

Note: Sites start with a root directory (/) by default. This allows stories without any prefix. Directories that contain stories show their story count and cannot be deleted until the stories are moved to a different directory. The last directory cannot be deleted – at least one must exist. To change a directory path, delete it and create a new one.

Using Permalink Directories

When creating a new story, select the desired permalink directory from the dropdown in the Permalink section. This determines the URL prefix for your story.
