Early access: Comments are currently available to a limited number of accounts. You can find out more about the program on our Early Access page, which is also linked from the Early access features menu item in the editor.

Comments let your team discuss a story right where the content is. Instead of collecting feedback in emails or separate documents, you can attach a remark to the exact section, element or text passage it refers to, reply to each other and mark a discussion as resolved once it has been taken care of.

Comments are only visible to people who can open the story in the editor or in the preview. They never appear in the published story.

Commenting in the Preview

Open the preview of your story to read it the way your audience will and comment as you go. A small toolbar appears in the bottom right corner.

From left to right, the toolbar shows how many comments there are, lets you switch between Unresolved and All comments, jumps to the previous or next comment, hides all comments so you can view the story undisturbed, and starts a new comment with the plus button.

Choosing What to Comment On

Click the plus button to start a new comment. Everything you can comment on is highlighted at once, and you pick your target:

An element – Click an element such as an image or a video to comment on it as a whole.

A text passage – Click a paragraph in a text block to comment on it as a whole, or select just the words your remark is about to attach the comment to exactly that passage.

A section – Use the button in the bottom left corner to comment on the current section, for example to discuss its background or its overall mood.

If you have already selected a text passage before clicking the plus button, the selection step is skipped and you can start writing right away.

Reading and Answering Comments

Comments appear as small markers next to the content they belong to. Click a marker to open the discussion, or use the arrow buttons in the toolbar to jump from one comment to the next.

Type into the Reply field to answer. All replies stay together in one topic. If you want to raise a separate point about the same element, use the New topic button to start a second discussion instead of mixing both into one thread.

Commenting in the Editor

You can also comment while you are working on the story. Select a section or an element and click the comment bubble in the corner of the selection frame.

When you select text inside a text block, a small comment icon appears next to the line. Click it to comment on the selected words. Content that already has comments is marked with a dot, so you can spot discussions while scrolling through your story.

Keeping Track in the Sidebar

Select Comments in the editor sidebar to see all comments of a story in one place, grouped by chapter, section and element.

The All comments tab lists every discussion in the story. The For selection tab narrows the list down to the section or element you are currently working on.

Marking Comments as Resolved

Once a remark has been taken care of, click Mark as resolved. Resolved discussions are collapsed and no longer counted as unresolved, which keeps the story free of markers you have already dealt with.

Nothing is lost in the process: resolved comments remain available under the All filter in the preview and in the sidebar list. Expand a resolved discussion to read it again, and use Mark as unresolved to bring it back if the topic comes up once more.

Recent Changes

These improvements have recently been added to comments:

31 July 2026:

  • Unsent text is kept – Comments and replies you have started but not sent yet are kept as a draft. Closing a comment window, selecting something else in the editor or leaving the comments view no longer discards them – the text is waiting for you when you come back. If sending fails, your text stays in the form so you can try again.
  • New topics stay in view – After you send a new topic, the discussion you just created is selected right away instead of the editor losing the selection.
  • The commented wording is preserved – Every comment records the wording it responded to. Once that text has been edited, the comment shows the earlier wording as a quote, so a discussion stays readable even after the passage has changed. This works for text passages and headings. Comments on text that still reads the same show no quote, and comments written before this change have no recorded wording.

Known Limitations and Next Steps

Comments are under active development. These points are currently on our list:

  • Comments cannot be edited – Once a comment has been sent, its wording can no longer be changed. Add a reply to correct or clarify what you wrote.
