Using custom fonts is available starting from the Business plan.

By default, Pageflow lets you choose from a predefined set of fonts when customizing branding options. However, we offer integrating custom fonts to make your stories fit in seamlessly with your corporate identity.

Assembling a custom typography tailored to your specific needs involves many subtle design decisions. We, therefore, ask you to open a support ticket and provide your font files along with any stylistic requirements. You can also send us a link to an existing website whose design you want us to mimic.

Font files

Ideally, provide font files using the Web Open Font Format (file extension ".woff"). However, we can perform the conversion for you if your fonts are only available in other formats (e.g., TTF or OTF files).

Note that different font weights (regular, medium, bold, etc.) and styles (normal, italic, etc.) come as separate files. Browsers support creating additional versions of a given font automatically if we only supply a font file for the regular weight. Those auto-generated fonts often lead to suboptimal rendering results, though. So be sure to include files for all weights and styles you want to use.

Important: Ensure fonts are available under a permissive license or purchase a license that allows hosting files on external servers.

Base typography

You can choose font settings for the following elements of a Pageflow Next story:

  • Chapter list in the navigation bar
  • Headings
  • Paragraphs in text blocks
  • Block quotes in text blocks

If you've provided files for multiple different fonts or different font weights, make sure to specify which font family and weight you want to apply for each element. Font sizes can be adjusted as well. However, some elements use response font sizes that adapt to different browser and device dimensions. Therefore, it's often easier to start with Pagefow's default than trying to specify exact font sizes up front.

Typography variants

Pageflow Next supports providing a set of different typographic variants that editors can apply to individual paragraphs, headings, or block quotes. Typography variants are a great way to build varied and engaging content while staying consistent with design guidelines.

For example, by default, Pageflow Next offers several variants for block quotes using different font sizes and colors.

When designing custom typography, we can change or extend the list of available variants for headings, paragraphs, and block quotes.
